What to do when Greece is still far away?

Our top 3 spots in Budapest to try the Greek coffee classics like frappé, freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino.

Over on our Balkanska Csárda channel, we wrote about what Greek coffee culture is actually like. But if you’d rather not wait for a trip to Greece, you can top up your “field study” right here in Hungary. Here are our top 3 spots in Budapest to try the Greek classics:

  1. MYKRO by pici — a brand-new spot in the 8th district where authenticity isn’t in question: it was opened by Dimitros Nakos, someone who knows exactly what a real frappé or freddo espresso should taste like.

  2. Mythos The Greek — don’t be put off by the fact that it’s a full restaurant: takeaway coffee is very much on the menu. The owners are Greek, so shaking espresso over ice and making a proper freddo is something they do with their eyes closed.

  3. Coffee Berry — the first Hungarian outpost of this Greek coffee chain is at Ferenc Liszt International Airport, in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2A. And yes, their signature drinks made the trip: frappé, freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino are all on offer.
