Simplified naturalisation: how to apply (step 3)

Full document checklist for applying for simplified Hungarian citizenship.

Document checklist for simplified naturalisation:

  1. Completed application form + a handwritten autobiography by the applicant (page 7 of the form).

  2. Birth certificate + all documents relating to the applicant’s marital status: marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate of a spouse. If the applicant has been married more than once, documents relating to all previous marriages must also be included.

  3. Form for registration of foreign civil records (birth abroad).

  4. Form for registration of foreign civil records (marriage abroad).

  5. Biometrics and photographs of all applicants, including children. Biometric data is collected at the time of submission — the personal presence of all applicants is required.

  6. If any applicant is under 18 — both parents must be present at submission OR a notarised consent to the child’s naturalisation from the other parent must be provided.

  7. If the basis is Hungarian ancestry: documents confirming the ancestor’s Hungarian citizenship or origin; documents covering the full chain of kinship (all intermediate relatives); for the maternal line — documents showing maiden/married names (marriage certificates).

  8. If the basis is marriage or a joint child: marriage certificate, child’s birth certificate, written statement from the Hungarian spouse confirming that the marriage is still valid at the time of application — either notarised OR confirmed by personal presence at the time of submission.

  9. Apostille for all foreign documents. If a document is a copy, the copy must be officially certified.
