We have already written about Hungary’s Eurovision history, and now comes a new development: Hungary’s new prime minister Péter Magyar, during his visit to Austria, stated that he will instruct the minister of culture to look into the country’s possible return to the Eurovision Song Contest.
„Őszintén szólva ez nem Magyarország miniszterelnökén múlik. Nem az én döntésem, hogy Magyarország újra részt vesz-e ezen a versenyen. Rengeteg levelet és kérést kaptam a fiatalabb generációtól azzal kapcsolatban, hogy nevezzük újra Magyarországot erre a versenyre. Ezért utasítani fogom a kulturális minisztert vagy államtitkárt, hogy vizsgálják meg és mérjék fel a lehetőségeinket, ezután pedig válasszal fogok visszatérni önökhöz és a fiatalabb generációhoz. Remélem, hogy igen. Részemről nincs ellenvetés, és semmi értelme annak, hogy ne vegyünk részt egy ilyen versenyen.“
“Honestly, this does not depend on Hungary’s prime minister. It is not my decision whether Hungary will participate in this competition again. I have received many letters and requests from the younger generation asking us to enter Hungary in the contest once more. I will therefore instruct the minister of culture or the state secretary to examine the matter and assess our options, after which I will come back to you and to the younger generation with an answer. I hope the answer is yes. I have no objection, and I see no reason why we should not participate in such a competition.”
